China represents a seemingly endless opportunity for cross border ecommerce expansion. The latest projections from eMarketer project cross border retail sales in China to grow by 18.5% to 144 billion USD in 2019. Growth is not expected to slow down at any time either despite political tensions and possible new changes in taxes and import/export regulations. By 2022 eMarketer projects that cross-border retail ecommerce sales will grow to nearly 200 billion USD.
What’s more the growth in spend on retail ecommerce sales is
also driven by a growing population of digital shoppers who are entering into
purchases via new technological devices like smart phones, tablets and
laptops. As the middle class continues
to grow in emerging markets like China, penetration of ecommerce sales will
continue to grow as devices, internet and income become more accessible to new international
shoppers.
